October 1977, the Sunday I was born. A year of transformation, disco and punk colliding with the last breath of hippie freedom. Fashion spilled from Studio 54's glitter, one-piece swimsuits cut high, pantsuits stepping boldly into boardrooms, feminism stitched into seams. Beauty glowed with bright and dramatic metallic shadows, slim eyebrows, strong blush, and glossy lips that caught the light. Hair rose in feathered waves, shags, and wild curls that moved with music. I was born in this flux. For fashion photography enthusiasts, medium format cameras and color slide film defined the era. Sony, the camera brand I use today, didn't even exist. Instead, it was the eye of photographers like Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, and Chris Von Wangenheim that shaped the visual language of fashion. Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Glamour, Seventeen, and Cosmopolitan were the bibles of style then, as they remain now. With countless creative opportunities in fashion photography, why wouldn't I cultivate my vision like a magazine? To be the editor-in-chief of my own portfolio, in my words. This first issue is my tribute to the year, the art, the rebellion, and the images that shaped me before I ever touched a camera, paving the way for my future editorial submissions.
